I had Gastric Sleeve surgery on February 14, 2017 (my Valentine’s Day gift to myself). When I first visited Dr. Huguet, I was over 320 pounds and had been 200 pounds or more since the ninth grade. I had tried multiple fad diets and although I would lose a lot of weight, I would gain it back plus more. I suffered from high blood pressure, high cholesterol and sleep apnea. Since my surgery, I no longer exhibit any of the symptoms. I has been two and a half years since my surgery and I still weigh 185 pounds. Meeting Dr. Huguet and his team and having this surgery has been the best decision I have every made in my life. It has given me a new lease on life and the confidence to pursue many of the dreams I had but allowed my weight to hold me back. Although I had owned a successful company for most of my life, I always felt at a disadvantage when I would attend meetings or serve on community boards and was the heavy guy in the room. I don’t feel that way anymore. In fact, I usually one of the skinniest guys in the room now. I don’t miss the food and I definitely don’t miss the weight. I have more energy and can spend more time with my wife and kids venturing out and about doing everything from walking five miles every day to scuba diving to planning a trip with a buddy to walk the Appalachian Trail. My wife gave me a little something to think about as I was learning to be the new me and I remind myself of it often… “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.” If you are considering surgery, don’t ask yourself “should I do it?” Rather ask yourself, “how soon can I get it done.” You won’t be disappointed!
