Bariatric Surgery
My name is Hannah and I’m the Retail Manager & Bariatric Marketing Director here at MIIS Weight Loss Institute. While we all have our unique journey, I wanted to share with you why I decided to have weight loss surgery.
If you have reached out to us for weight loss surgery or have had your consultation, you may already know that I had my surgery back in 2019. That’s why I’m the advocate here at MIIS Weight Loss Institute. I have a good understanding of you may be experiencing throughout your journey. I want to get you to surgery just as quick as you want to get to surgery – I completely understand your sense of urgency and the many questions you may have.
Even if you have met me, you may not know why I decided to have weight loss surgery. So, here is my brief story. I had a few friends that had weight loss surgery, specifically the sleeve gastrectomy, and they were really successful. At the time, I would try one diet after another. I would lose 5-10 pounds and the weight would come back faster and stronger than it did before.
I was at my highest weight after I had my son in 2017 and I that point I just felt lost. I felt there was nothing else that I could really do. It really hit home for me when we went on a trip to Florida before we made our move back. I remember it like it was yesterday. We were at Universal Studios. I got on a ride and the bar wouldn’t lock into place. The embarrassment that I felt immediately was horrible. I was escorted off the ride, handed express passes and told “Sorry” as they sent me on my way. That was followed by a complete breakdown. I knew at that point that I needed to do something for myself.
When we arrived back home after that vacation, I set up my weight loss surgery seminar appointment. After that, I set up my consultation and began my weight loss surgery journey. That led me to have my surgery in 2019. Of course, there are other factors that played into my decision to have weight loss surgery. I wanted to be able to see my son grow up and chase him around. At the time, even sitting on the floor with him, I was very uncomfortable.
I started my journey at 300 pounds. Just to put that into perspective – I am 5’4” tall. I now range between 150 and 155 depending on the day. So, I’ve essentially lost a whole person! Sitting on the floor now with my son feels good and I’m not out of breath anymore doing day to day activities. Also, I have a long history of asthma and I’ve had no flare ups since surgery. Surgery was for myself but it was also to see my son grow up and play with him. Now that we live full-time here in Florida, we can go to Disney or Universal Studios on the weekend and I can easily get on the rides with no problem. That was my huge ‘non-scale victory’ which is very important. You see, we are really big about celebrating the non-scale victories around here!
So, that’s my story of what led me to have weight loss surgery.
