Bariatric Surgery
Any time you’re having surgery, you want to make sure you have the best surgeon and the best team caring for you and guiding you every step of the way. This is especially important when it comes to weight loss surgery.
There are a number of ways you can find a qualified bariatric surgeon such as a personal referral from someone you know who has had weight loss surgery and had a good outcome. In fact, at MIIS, we receive the majority of our referrals this way, which is quite an honor and appreciated. You could also receive a referral from your primary care doctor, via online search or reviews, videos, or webinars. Another great resource to find bariatric surgeons is the ASMBS (American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery) website at ASMBS.org. There you can find bariatric surgeons across the country who are affiliated with this organization. We find that our patients are pretty savvy in their research and we appreciate that.
At MIIS Weight Loss Institute, we welcome any and all questions that you may have. You can trust that we will answer your questions with sincerity and honesty.
Some of the questions that we recommend that you ask in your search for a qualified bariatric surgeon should include:
- How many years have you been a bariatric surgeon?
- Where were you trained?
- Are you board certified by the American College of Surgeons?
- Are you a member of the ASMBS?
- How many weight loss procedures have you performed?
- What surgery do you recommend for me?
- What are the advantages and risks of this procedure?
- How much weight can I expect to lose?
- Will this surgery be performed laparoscopically or robotically?
- Is your hospital a Center of Excellence?
- Do you have a comprehensive pre-& post-operative weight loss program?
These are the basic questions and of course you may have more. It’s common to watch an online weight loss surgery webinar or attend an in-person seminar prior to your consultation so that your one on one meeting with the surgeon can be focused on you and your particular situation.
In addition to your surgeon, you’ll want to feel comfortable with the comprehensive team and your overall customer service experience.
Weight loss surgery is a passion of ours. When we see our patients losing weight, record their health problems melt away, watch their happiness return and doing the things that bring them joy with their families, it reinforces why we chose to specialize in bariatric surgery in the first place.
Here at MIIS Weight Loss Institute, you become an important member of our weight loss family when you choose to have surgery. We are your extended support system. We also welcome your significant other to come with you to your appointments and your educational program so that they can also understand what to expect before, during and after surgery.
You can view our online webinar from the comfort of your own home. Our Bariatric Patient Advocate is also readily available to answer your questions and set up your initial consultation.
